A comparative analysis of two catastrophic floods of Beijiang River Basin in April 2024 and June 2022

    • From April 16 to 23, 2024, the Pearl River experienced the strongest rainfall process since the flood season this year.Affected by the heavy rainfall, the water level of the main and tributaries of the Beijiang River has risen, The Beijiang River experienced an over-100-year catastrophic flood, which is another major flood that has occurred in the Beijiang River Basin since the catastrophic flood in June 2022.Based on the measured data, this paper makes a detailed analysis and comparison of the catastrophic floods in April 2024 and June 2022 from the aspects of rainstorm cause, rainstorm distribution, rainstorm characteristics, flood magnitude, flood composition and flood characteristics, etc., summarizes and compares the joint operation effect of Beijiang water projects in the course of the two floods, aiming to offer an empirical reference for the defense against the future catastrophic floods in the Beijiang River Basin.
