Abstract:
Flood control in Shanghai relies mainly on the seawalls along the Hangzhou Bay at Changjiang Estuary and the flood wall along the Huangpu River. With the global climate warming and corresponding apparent increase frequency of flood disaster, current flood control system and risk management are facing a challenge on prevention storm flood and severe super typhoon, which bring a great concern about flood protection countermeasures. This paper focus on flood characteristic at Shanghai in recent years, the flood control abilities and standards, as well as risk management are reevaluated according to the data collected from flood wall along the Huangpu River. This paper also proposes detail countermeasures for flood control.
