Abstract:
Extreme rainstorm occurred in multiple places in Henan province from July 17 to 23, 2021. This extreme rainstorm process was characterized by large accumulative rainfall amount, wide coverage, strong precipitation extremes, concentrated periods and long duration of short-range rainstorm. The "7·20" extreme rainstorm in Henan is a direct result of collaborative effects of abnormal atmospheric circulations over East Asia, and also a specific manifestation of frequent extreme rainfall events under the background of global warming. In recent years, meteorological disasters such as rainstorms, floods, high temperature and heat waves, droughts, typhoons and so on have frequently occurred all over the world, and the impact of extreme events on economic and social development tends to be more serious. China should respond to these extreme weather and climate events in a comprehensive, scientific and effective manner, and continuously improve the ability to cope with extreme disasters.
